Biography
D. Ian Kilgour was educated at the University of Manitoba Faculty of Law and obtained his Call to the Bar in Manitoba in 1985.  He practiced law in Winnipeg for 6 years as a litigation lawyer and appeared in every level of court from traffic court to the Manitoba Court of Appeal.  He assisted senior counsel in a first degree murder trial and conducted trials in the Court of Queen’s Bench with success in the areas of family law, criminal law, and civil litigation.

He was Called to the Bar in Ontario in 1991 and has practiced in the Greater Toronto Area since then.  In 1996 he moved his practice from Toronto to the rapidly expanding Regional Municipality of Peel and he has had offices in Mississauga and Brampton since 1996.
He has appeared in family law, criminal law, and civil litigation matters in every level of court in Ontario including successful appeals to the Ontario Court of Appeal.  In addition he has conducted civil litigation in Admiralty Law matters in the Federal Court in Toronto, and has participated in mediation in civil and family law matters.

Ian continues to concentrate on the areas of family law, criminal law, and civil litigation.  Over his 30 years of practice he has also provided other services to his clients including wills, powers of attorney, estates, incorporations, business start-ups, and the purchase and sale of residential and commercial properties. His experience in these matters helps him to assist his clients who require these services.  In addition, his experience in these areas gives him the expertise to act on behalf of clients who are involved in litigation arising out of estate, corporate, or real estate transactions.

D. Ian Kilgour takes pride in providing personal service to his clients.  He takes personal responsibility for all actions and communications on behalf of his clients.  He recognizes the importance of his clients’ time commitments to their jobs and families and, wherever possible, uses technology to make efficient use of his clients’ time. 

He has appeared in Ontario Courts from London in the West to Napanee in the East and from Welland in the Niagara Region to Huntsville in Muskoka.  He has also been counsel of record in proceedings in the British Columbia Supreme Court in Kelowna.  If you require counsel to act on your behalf outside of the Greater Toronto Area, Mr. Kilgour has experience travelling throughout Ontario and Manitoba on behalf of his clients.
